Stay alive · 404Kit

Where do your dead URLs land?

Renames and pivots leak traffic. Load your sitemap, paste the URLs you killed, and each one is sorted, matched to its closest live page, and turned into a redirect map you can ship.

How it decides.

Four rules, no model. The matching runs in your browser on slugs and titles: typo-tolerant, and blind to locale prefixes, version tags and years.

  1. 01

    Scanners get nothing

Paths like /.env, /wp-login.php and /xmlrpc.php are probes, not people. They get a plain 404: no redirect, no recovery page.

  2. 02

    A clear winner gets a 301

When one live page scores 88% or better and beats the runner-up by 20 points, the old URL redirects to it silently.

  3. 03

A close call gets a choice

Otherwise the visitor should see a recovery page with the closest live pages on it. Nobody gets dumped on the homepage.

  4. 04

    No match, no redirect

If nothing on the live site is close enough, the URL stays a real 404. A wrong redirect is worse than an honest one.

Page titles here are read from the URL slugs in your sitemap. The dead URLs you paste never leave this page.

The site stays alive after launch.

This kit is the one-off audit. The Care Plan keeps 404 recovery running every month, with a note on what broke and what came back.
